I've never had one of these crippled CDs to play around with, but I'd
try somethings before resorting to using WINE to play the WMA files.

1) Try ripping it with cdparanoia anyhow. You might have to mess around
with the options some.

2) If that doesn't work, I'd next try readcd to directly pull
information off the disc. IIRC, CDs with both data and audio, are just
multisession discs. The first session contains the audio, since CD
players will only read the first session. The second session contains
the data track. When stuck in a computer, the computer is smart enough
to see the data. This is the CD-EXTRA technique.

What you want to do, is only get to the first session - the one with the
audio data. Now, because of the copy protection on the audio data, I'm
not sure this will help you at all - the audio may be too corrupted to
extract at all.

cdrdao's "read-toc" function should be able to read the TOC from the
disc. You'll need to specify the --session option to choose the correct
session manually.

>From here, you'll be able to do one of two things: either try to use
cdrdao's "read-cd" option, which will rip a burnable image of the data
along with the toc info, or, get the sectors that contain the audio
information.

If cdrdao read-cd is unable to extract the right stuff, you could go
back to read-cd and specifically tell it what sectors to read. This
will get you raw CDDA information, which you can convert to WAV with
sox. If cdrdao read-cd does work, you'll have a burnable image and can
burn out a regular, plane-jane redbook audio disc.

Sounds like it'll be a fun project. Maybe I'll go pick up the disc just
to see if I can hack around the protection ::-)

On a related note, has anyone tried this?
