Thanks Daniel, that's good to know. Do you ( or anyone else ) have a recommendation as to the ( holy war ) AMD Phenom vs Intel i5 or i7 question? It's been years since I paid attention to hardware for linux audio and suddenly I need to replace a machine quickly. I'm hoping to stay in midrange for price. Too many options!<br>

I would look for a microatx Gygabyte Mainboard with built in firewire... I have one of these at home, Gygabyte are one of the only manufacturers that do onboard texas instruments firewire. Which was at least when I was looking at it generally the to have chipset family for firewire audio on linux.<br>

Hi folks, my machine just died so it's time to shop for a new one, and might as well kick the tires on distros at the same time. Can anyone give my their recommendations (and stay-away-froms) for a microATX factor board/chip combo that will work well for setting up a linux audio workstation to be used with a Presonus Firepod? <br>
<br>Anyone have experiences to share re the Ubuntu Studio 9.10 and the Firepod? ( or other presonus firewire cards ).<br><br>thanks<br><font color="#888888">Iain<br>
