Ubuntu should have precompiled version of JACK via apt-get. If for whatever
reason you wish to compile by yourself, one of the common problems is making
sure that the tmp folder is properly selected. IIRC Ubuntu may have it in a
different place than what JACK ./configure assumes. Other issues are that
you need dev libraries for compiling (e.g. libalsa-dev etc.).
