Yes, as some of you saw at LAD conference, I was using a PSX gamepad
fed into Pd to control the patch. As Pd can also generate midi data,
this is a full solution. I was using the joystick Pd external which
reads from the /dev/input/js devices, but now there also is an
interesting alternative by Hans-Christoph Steiner, who wrote an
external that reads from the event devices. The code is available
here:

This seems to be even more flexible than just using the joystick
interface, because it opens up input from even more idevices than just
joysticks (but is limited to USB)
