try sending a message with the body and/or subject of "help" to the
gmpi-request address. yes, there is a digest mode.

the list begain in february. the design process for GMPI was outlined
(this was somewhat mandated by the MMA). An agenda was developed to
handle the requirements phase, which consisted of on the order of
10-20 broad topics, which several sub-questions per topic. The list
"moderator" (sometimes Ron Kuper of Cakewalk, sometimes Tim when Ron
is busy) posts a section question, we discuss it, when the discussion
dies down, Ron/someone posts a summary. If everyone agrees with the
summary, we move on to the next section.

This process has been slowing recently, and I've suggested a change in
procedure so that we focus on a review/discussion of existing APIs in the
context of the requirements agenda.

The agenda itself has the following broad topics:

1. Cross-platform
2. Plugin flavors
3. Host interface
4. Audio packaging
5. Time representation
6. Parameter representation
7. Persistence
8. Threading
9. GUI
10. The role of MIDI
11. Component packaging
12. Enumeration (creation, discovery, etc.)
13. Copy protection
14. Localization
15. DSP state
17. Source code

with much more specific subquestions already listed for each topic. We
are currently at about topic 6/7.

please don't try to second guess GMPI. either become a participant on
the list, or just wait. there are some really really good people
there, and everybody who is actively participating has the best
intentions. no platform-specific discussion (linux, windows, macos,
tdm whatever) will really get close to what is going on there.
