Several possibilities:
- AGNULA Debian distribution (http://www.agnula.org). It installs on top
of a debian distribution and is probably the best suited for tuning to a
minimal distribution. It also comes now as a Live CD
- Planet CCRMA packages
(http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/), which you install on
top of a redhat or fedora
- Dynebolic (http://www.dynebolic.org/), also a Live CD

good luck
