Marek, please do not project your thinking onto others.

There is another point that is muddling the discussion on this
particalur issue. 

We are all developers *and* to some extent users of audio HW and
SW. As developers and Linux nerds, we regularly update our systems
and adapt to the newest developments.

A professional audio user (who is not a Linux nerd but just a 
happy user) will *not* do this. If my studio works and is making
money and there is otherwise no need to do it, I will not touch it.
In this situation, a closed source driver that is up to date at
the time it is delivered with the hardware makes perfect sense.

Things like a Fireface are intended for this type of user, and
no matter how much I'd love to see an open source driver for 
all sexy hardware that's on the market, I can not force any
manufacturer to supply one, or the info required to write it.
They may have good reasons why they don't and they are not
required by any law to satisfy my desires. 

Open source and freedom of IP for me are moral choices.
I have no problem with anybody who tries to live or behave
according to his beliefs. I *do* have a problem with those
who want to impose their standards onto others that do not
share the same beliefs. So I will not try to impose my
choices onto others.
