Maybe so.  But, it's important to keep this in perspective.

LADSPA has been a great success, and simplicity was one of the main
reasons.  Now that the concept is proven, people are willing to invest
more time and effort into its evolution.  In the beginning, to get a
foothold, it had to be extremely simple.
