The dssi-vst bridge plugin is pretty decent now, so I'd suggest that
doing DSSI support is quite a good way to get VSTi support -- at least
for 32-bit Windows VST plugins. That way everyone wins: you get more
plugins supported more easily, DSSI gets more exposure, and dssi-vst
gets more testing and improvements and quirk fixes can be concentrated
in a single place.

Besides VST instrument plugins, dssi-vst is also an easy way to get VST
effects support. You have LADSPA, so if you're adding DSSI GUI support
for synth plugins in any case, then you'll get DSSI effects support
(and VST effects support with GUIs, and DSSI GUIs for LADSPA plugins)
pretty much free because DSSI is compatible with LADSPA for effects.

I'll be happy to provide help and explanation for anyone thinking of
working on a DSSI host -- although there's a lot of documentation and
example code already.

A related thing I'd like to see is a DSSI synth plugin that plays
Hydrogen drumkits. I nearly wrote one a few weeks ago, but, well, time
didn't quite permit...
