Well, funnily enough, somewhere on my TODO list is discussing about
and writing an official Roadmap document for BEAST. But it will probably
take some time to get this done, so I here my inoffical 2005 plan:

beast:
 - work on the instrument support
   - support for GUS Patches (currently working on this)
   - add more synthesis networks to the distribution, provide presets
   - maybe later add soundfont support (maybe via libfluidsynth)
 - integrate more with "the rest of the linux world"
   - probably DSSI client/host support
   - fix any remaining issues with the PortAudio driver and the
PortAudio blocking JACK support I added
   - more (maybe native) JACK support
   - more ALSA support, to allow proper (time synchronous) midi loopback
from/to other synths/sequencers and midi output to external devices
 - more C++ porting
 - fix what annoys musicians most about it
   - make music with BEAST to find out what this is
   - listen to musicians to see what this is
   - maybe provide ports to non-linux systems

other projects:
 - support interoperability where possible (for instance: maybe provide
help for polypaudio to become a new de facto soundserver standard)

There is a more elaborate version of my (and Tim Janiks) TODO (my part
of the TODO starts at the line "sfidl:") at

http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/beast/TODO?rev=1.523&view=markup

but that is probably more work than for 2005 only. My plan for 2005 is
to more or less concentrate on BEAST development, as I can provide a new
place for some of my former ideas I had for aRts there.

  Cu... Stefan
