Simpler still, start with this (or make the synth's installer do this):

  # ln -s jack-dssi-host /usr/bin/whysynth

Then you can just run

  $ whysynth

for the same thing (a standalone GUI program with ALSA sequencer MIDI 
input and JACK audio output).
