To make this thread go totally off-topic, here's the same in Q:

intersect Xs [Y|Ys] = [Y|intersect Xs Ys] if any (=Y) Xs;
                     = intersect Xs Ys otherwise;

Now which one looks prettier? Sorry, couldn't resist. ;-)
