Hello Nick!
   You might also write debug info not to STDERR, but to a file. I think 
debugging is a feature turned on voluntarily. So you can just inform the user 
on startup, that debugging info is written to "bristol-PROC_ID-debug" or 
something like that. Pine works that way.
