You're probably right. I few years ago I had a conversation with
them, and surprisingly enough, they didn't have much of a clue about
open source in general and the issues they were concerned about
(like me potentially helping their competitors, or the existence of
code which would not implement the spec correctly) were not
something their license would be able to prevent. So it was kind of
strange conversation, and very little helpful.

Ah, that's interesting to hear, I thought those 8mm tapes were
history since at least 6 years and officially discontinued even
longer. But I just checked with Arvato Digital Services, one of the
biggest manufacturers in Germany and they still accept Exabyte. I've
send many masters out in that format, but since roughly 6 years, I
completely switched to DDP on DVD-R, which has always worked fine
(with the exception of NAXOS, who I think replicated once from the
reference CD copy...). Are you sure, the plants in your area do not
accept DDP on other media like hard disk, USB stick, or DVD-R? For
FTP I think DDP us preferred anyway.

That said, with the code from dvdtape as an example of how to
properly write to tape (Exabyte will probably work very similar to
DLT I guess), it should be possible to add tape output to cue2ddp, I
just wonder if it's worth the time. And while I have plenty of
those media around, I don't have a drive for testing over here these
days.

My impression is, that interest in DDP is extremely low among Linux
audio people, so for DDP on tape you may well be the only person on
this planet lookin for that--not saying that's a bad thing, though. ;)

Thank you, Raphael, I'll keep that in mind!
