ReiserFS is very fast filesystem, but there's alot more to it than just what file system you're using. You may want to consider several things: 1) what is your hdparm set to? 2) Do you have the proper support for your chipset compiled into the kernel? Just because it works doesn't mean it's set up properly. 3) Is it a brand new type of controller? The drivers for it may still be a work in progress and they may not currently function the greatest. (SATA controllers on Nvidia chipsets for instance) 4) There are other factors to consider in disk speed than RPM, for example what size cache does it have and what is it's seek time? 5) What other processes are running and what kind of load are they putting on your hard drive.
