This is not the answer you want but, if you only need to save them at a 
default volume then you can use:

	alsactl store <card>

there is a way to do it in your modules.conf file so that everytime you 
load the modules it restores the default setting.

ex.

alias snd-card-0 snd-cmipci
  options snd-cmipci id="first" # snd_enable_midi="1"
post-install snd-cmipci /usr/sbin/alsactl restore
  pre-remove snd-cmipci /usr/sbin/alsactl store
