I guess this could work as long as all parties understand the 
demarcation. I can imagine resistance from mastering engineers who 
might regard a multitrack project as 'unfinished', or not want to 
take responsibility for the mix.

On the other hand, I'd love to be able this kind of flexibility, but 
it would depend on having Ardour or something compatible with our 
multitrack project files at every stage in the chain.
