If you are using the ebuild (rather than #3), add jack-tmpfs to your 
USE.  jack is then built with --with-default-tmpdir=/dev/shm. Check your 
/etc/fstab - there should be an entry to mount /dev/shm as tmpfs (I 
don't think I had to add that - it was just there).
