I suspect the author is confused.  My delta1010 (IIRC same chipset) has;

8 analogue (balanced) in
8 analogue (balanced) out
SPDIF in (stereo)
SPDIF out (stereo)

... and the internal mixer can also be recorded too.

If I can still count, thats 12 inputs and 10 outputs.

I think the delta66 and 44 cards drop analogue I/O and wordclock I/O.
