Some questions, for purposes of general knowledge:
1. How can the version of the currently running AlSA driver be determined?
2. With multiple soundcards, how can a playback device be specified with aplay?  With mplayer, xmms, or other apps?
3. With a multi channel device, can multiple instances of mplayer use specific outputs?  How can this be assigned?
