What about BEAST [http://beast.gtk.org/]?  I've never tried it, but it
looks like an all-in-one GUI composition and synthesis package.

There's another effort calls buzztard
[http://www.buzztard.org/index.php/Main_Page], but I don't think it's
in a usable state yet.
