It turns out that 1) installing the above (breezy package) on dapper 
will break packages depending on newer versions of pam and 2) the 
package in dapper is already good enough. So basically I had to (after 
undoing the above):

echo @audio - rtprio 99 >> /etc/security/limits.conf
echo @audio - memlock 250000 >> /etc/security/limits.conf
echo @audio - nice -10 >> /etc/security/limits.conf
