You could connect the track directly to the synthesizer, but this
requires that the synth is already running.

To get more than one "through" port, use the "ports" parameter of the
snd-seq-dummy module, i.e., add a line like

options snd-seq-dummy ports=5

to your /etc/modprobe.conf, or use whatever configuration tool is
provided by your distribution.
