Personally, I use e17;)  Then again I probably got lucky with my most 
recent CVS pull of it and it has been really stable for me.

Fluxbox is great for a nice lightweight WM.

Gnome is good on a slightly beefier machine for a more general all 
around control.

XFCE I never got to impressed with myself.

And I stay as far away from KDE as I possibly can.
