Hi Vaughan,

it sounds like jack can't get realtime privileges. Test this with

gksu qjackctl

or

su
jackd (ARGUMENTS HERE)

If it works now with realtime, install the patched PAM modules
(recommended), rtsched, or realtime-lsm.
