I also don't have that problem with my AP 2496. :( I think, in your
case I would just get creative with USB. USB hubs are cheap, and I
think, if you get one and plug non-critical stuff into it like mouse
or keyboard, you should be able to make some spare USB ports for midi
available. Actually I don't use the midi port on my AP anymore because
all midi gear I actually use also has USB connectors, and I prefer
using these.
