Pick up a second-hand DAT or better still Minidisc recorder.  You can
get a *really really good* Minidisc very cheaply these days, and media
is still available.

Minidisc mechanisms tend to be fairly quiet (but not silent).  The ATRAC
compression is lossy, but not obtrusively so - you'd be unlikely to hear
it on vocals in a mix.
