FYI, on any contemporary linux system with reasonable sensible hardware
and a minor amount of system configuration, you should be able to record
24+ tracks simultaneously without any issues at all, for hours. if you
can't, then you've got a problem with any or all of:

   * the wrong kernel
   * poor hardware
   * lack of system configuration tuning
   * wrong options given to software
   * bad software
