I have never been to a "laptop battle", but I'm gathering from the context that it is a contest for electronic musicians and DJ's, each to bring their  laptops and spin some beats and loops to entertain the minglers and pool-players, with some judge determining the "best" and awarding a prize to them.

You could always email the guy and get more details.
