I had a SBLive! until I blew the card with too high a level while
trying to work out how to record Line-In.

I now have the SB Audigy 2 ZS internal. Uses the same driver as the
Live!.

1. Using Alsamixer, press the F5 key to see ALL the controls (check
the View: line at the top)

2. Turn on the Line control. I set the volume level at 94.

3. Go down to the Analog M control. I set the volume level to 96.
(This may not actually be a requirement, but I do it anyway.)

4. Go right beside it to the Analog M Capture control (this is
probably the control you are not setting. Without this on, you're not
going to get any input from the Line-In hardware jack. I also think
it would be needed if you trying to record the Audio CD input,
depending on which type of input you are using: analog or digital). I
set the volume level at 94.

You can record the Line-In jack now.

I turn off the PCM Capture control if I'm only recording Line-In. You
could leave it on to capture PCM sounds, like your audio software
playing a song while you record vocals to it with the Line-In.

I think that's what the Analog Mixer is for, being able to mix various
inputs at the same time, and Analog Mixer Capture will let you record
it. But for Line-In, the PCM is not being used and you *have* to use
Analog Mixer Capture.

Hope this helps,
Stephen.
