[LAU] specimen (what and how)

Hi,

I've to find out specimen cause many people seems to use it. But I can't 
find a clear documentation...

1. What can I do with Specimen?
2. Is it comparable with linuxsamplers gigedit?
3. Will Specimen make a soundfont? Or a other file?
4. What is a bank and how can I get one?
5. What is a patch and how can I get one?
6. How can I convert wav -> to 'specimen file' (there was a script some 
time ago on the list?)
7. IS it possible with specimen to make a soundfont, or do I need a 
other program for that?
