   one thing to investigate is data recovery in 
the case of hardware failure. 
   TEST: remove a hard drive from your system, 
put it in some other system, and try to recover 
the data. 
   it may be that LVM encodes the filesystem 
such that recovery must be through the LVM 
software that was managing the data input.
