[LAU] Am I experiencing ground hum or is it something else?

Does your soundcard mixer include a channel for CD audio ? If so, is the 
fader at zero ? The CD drives on my machines make an awful sound through 
my speakers, so I keep them zeroed unless I'm actually playing a disc.
