Ok, thanks. Maybe that's enough to risk it.

I looked at the m-audio NRV10 initially as it has the full 10 channel return plus an 
extra XLR/preamp and inserts on all channels but it's £130 more expensive for it.
I'd be using it for relay recording anyway not live mixing of multiple sources and I
don't do any surround work so i'm not sure it's worth it. Not to me anyway,
