[LAU] Timers [Was Re: Awkward intermittent bug]

Yes, I've tried it with a number of different rates including 16000
and 48000, and it doesn't make any difference - my voice still sounds
highpitched. Similarly, if I run

arecord -Dhw:1,0 -r XXXX foo.wav

and vary the rate XXXX, this doesn't make any difference.
