Hi Andrew,

I own a Edirol UA-25 and am very happy with it, alas it does not seem to
be available from thomann.de.

The ESI MAYA 44 USB is nice and works with Linux; but has no MIDI and no
XLR in; Note that you can only use 4 I/O simultaneously.

Practically every USB-1.1 interface (with few exceptions) works with
Linux; a list of supported devices is available at:
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdevcat.php?id=7&o=0&w=t&s=v&d=a

Before you buy, check `cat /proc/interrupts` if your computer has a IRQ
for an USB with no other devices on the same line. Recent Kernels have
gotten much better at handling multiple devices on the same IRQ, but
you'll have less things to tweak and certainly a lower chance to
encounter xruns (aka drop-outs) if you can plug the sound-card in a port
with no other devices on it.

eg. I use usb4:
- ---8<---
 17: 11859969 89 IO-APIC-fasteoi uhci_hcd:usb3, HDA Intel, ohci1394
 18: 56231573 0 IO-APIC-fasteoi uhci_hcd:usb4
 19: 334083 3 IO-APIC-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb5
- ---8<---

HTH,
robin
