[LAU] more than 4 channels for listening? Really?

The hardware is my firepod which has eight analog outputs, connected to two 
active alesis monitor speakers and a self-made 6-channel amp with 6 connected 
jbl monitor one.

For the software I am using:
 - jconvolver to correct the sound with pulses calculated by drc with impulses 
measured with aliki.
 - ambdec to convert from ambisonics to the specific speakers.

"Normal" music listening I do without ambisonics as I don't have the 
additional speakers powered on all the time. But it is also nice to use the 
ladspa stereo-to-amb panner to move the stereo speakers in the room.

I am thinking about adding a 5.1-to-ambisonics mixer/panner to move the 
specialized channels with their defined positions to virtual sources in my 
ambisonics surrounding. Don't know if that works out...
