As you said: "Fedora 8 is a few years old now".
Not everybody can or want to use an old distro with a sox that's five  
versions behind (v13 vs 14.3).

That said, I don't think you shouldn always expect "recepies" for one  
major version to work flawlessly in the next. And, as I found, the  
remix 1 command works in 14.3.0 (or at least openSUSEs version) so  
there's a possibility Ken's version is buggy.
