Yes. With the appropriate mindset, even using a minimal set of very low level 
operations you can write any program.

Why should I adopt any new API for my programs in replacement of a good old 
one that gives me everything I need? Maybe because we love to try new toys, 
and there was a good marketing campaign selling me the idea?... On the other 
hand, I tend to ignore campaigns exhibiting a motto like "resistance is 
futile, you will be assimilated".
