Ah, the configure script should have been changed...
As Phillip noted MusE requires Qt3, Qt4 is not backwards compatible.

Install devel packages for qt3-mt (mt stands for multithreaded, I
think this version is needed) and set QTDIR to point to the location
where it is installed.
Many distros needs this setting:
export QTDIR=/usr/share/qt3
