Mplayer, vlc, totem etc. all handle wma, provided you have appropriate 
codecs installed.

Depending on distro or player backend, suitable packages might be called
w32codecs, gstreamer-plugins-ugly etc.

I'm running Fedora on an HP laptop, Pentium M, 512MB RAM, with Xfce and 
rpmfusion[1] for non-free formats.

A very usable setup, but would benefit from more RAM, as any machine would.
