Not sure how that could be done. I was hoping for something that let me 
do the bookkeeping from python, and use os.system('pgm_change_app -d "XP 
MIDI mate MIDI 1" -c 1 -b 2 -p 22') (or something along those lines) to 
send bank select 2, program change 22 on channel 1 through my midi mate 
midi interface...
