[LAU] Alternative to audacity for simple non-jack recording?

Thanks for the hints. I'll try to fiddle some more with audacity,
since it seems some people have made it work, but it seems like I'm
better off getting a better piece of equipment if I want any sort of
decent result from these recordings.
