[LAU] libcairo seems incomplete

Hi wizards and wizardesses,

Trying to compile sndfile-tools from git, the author suggests
I have a library problem.

Cairo appears to be present during the ./configure
phase, however some dependent libraries are not
found during make. 

One of these libraries is libxcb-shm.so.0,
which is present:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb-shm.so.0

Can someone help me solve this:
