Hi Kris,
  MilkyTracker is a traditional tracker which is available on Linux.
It is a clone of FastTracker II and ProTracker, so it's got the
Amiga-style grid-o-buttons layout. If you've used Impulse Tracker
before, SchismTracker is a clone of that. I personally prefer either
of those to MPT.

  If it's just all out quality in a tracker interface you're after (as
opposed to compatibility with legacy formats), I highly recommend
Renoise. It supports plugin formats (VST, and not sure what else on
Linux) and has lots of built-in effects. I've mostly switched to Mac
these days, but I've logged hours upon hours on that version of
Renoise and have never seen a crash. It's (cheap) commercial software
though, not free.
