Some of the devices in their support list have librarian-only support 
(you can't edit patches).  From what I've gathered, you have to send a 
patch bank to the device (so it has the same patches in it as what 
you're looking at in JSynthLib), and then pick the patch you want to 
edit, and right-click.  The JSynthLib project has never gained much 
momentum -- everyone agrees a free Java-based sysex editor/librarian 
would be a good idea, but no Java programmers ever want to work on it. 
So it's never been very well developed.

The auto-scan never worked well for me; it's better to add your devices 
by hand.

I don't know about other devices, but I think there is a CVS version 
around somewhere.  They don't release very often.
