I spoke too soon. Same error with jackd1, just takes sometime to start. 
The qjackctl messages are different multiple
delay of 29465.000 usecs exceeds estimated spare time of 5224.000; 
restart ...


Going to try kxstudio livedvd to see if it happens there.
