Ok great. And yes it's hacky and contains Bashism of which &> is one of
them. I stopped using those and returned to good ol' 2>&1. Wrt not
getting a prompt back, check http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/x9644.html and
then the paragraph about *wait*.
