I use it with the mouse, rather than keyboard, and was wondering if
you would program that right clicks on the keys would send note-on,
without a note-off, and indicate that the note is held by some means.

Second right clicks on held/latched notes could send note-off, or a
left click on a held/latched one could simply do as it usually does
(and also un-show that it's held).

Or some variation on something like that. Some virtual synths have
sequencers which stop when the key is released.
