Well, I know from photography sites that there is a tendency to view
everything as garbage that is older than 5 years or so, and it makes me
wonder how people imagine the art/profession managed to exist at that
time.

Newer technology tend to increase the rate and ratio at which you can
produce keepers, but you still need to have an idea for something worth
keeping in the first place, and in the professional market you'll be
competing with your competition's ideas more than with your
competition's tools.
